GCC VAT calculator
Work out the price with or without VAT in a second. Choose a country preset or type the rate printed on your invoice.
How the calculation works
To add VAT, multiply the price by (1 + rate ÷ 100). To remove VAT, divide the total by (1 + rate ÷ 100). The VAT amount is the difference between the two prices. Many people make the mistake of subtracting 5% from a price that already includes 5%, which leaves a small error because the VAT was calculated on the lower, pre-VAT price.
Worked example
A 105 AED bill includes 5% VAT. Dividing by 1.05 gives 100 AED before VAT, so the VAT is 5 AED. In Saudi Arabia at 15%, a 115 SAR total means 100 SAR before VAT and 15 SAR of VAT.
Good to know
- The presets are the standard rates commonly quoted at the time of writing: UAE 5%, Saudi Arabia 15%, Oman 5% and Bahrain 10%. Qatar and Kuwait had not introduced a general VAT at the last check. Rates can change, so confirm with your national tax authority and edit the rate field to match your invoice.
- Some goods and services are zero-rated or exempt. Look at the invoice rather than assuming.
- If you pay in a currency such as KWD, OMR or BHD, enter the label and remember that those currencies use three decimal places.

Frequently asked questions
Is 5% of the price the same as removing 5% VAT?
No. If the total includes 5% VAT, divide by 1.05. Taking 5% off the total gives a slightly wrong answer.
Which Gulf countries have VAT?
The UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman and Bahrain apply VAT. Qatar and Kuwait did not at the time of writing. Check official sources for changes.
Can I use this for India’s GST?
